2 Gert Grobler

Biography

Gert Grobler matriculated at the Wessel Maree High School in Odendaalsrus which produced Springbok rugby players such as Martiens le Roux and Jannie de Beer. He studied at the University of the Free State, during which time he represented the Shimlas and Free State rugby teams on the flank. He had a successful career as a diplomat for almost 40 years and was, amongst others, South Africa’s ambassador in Spain, Japan and Madagascar. After his retirement, he spent two years in China as a senior visiting lecturer at the Institute of African Studies at the Zhejiang University.
